Florence + the Machine : Lungs Album Review

Hell what  can i say about this album its amazing i think there are   only  2  songs  that  i  cant  find real love for  but  are more than tolerable which in  its own self is a real testament to the quality of this 13 track masterpiece the album is well produced a credit  to the various studios  3 in total and  band . After my first listen i  was blown away  with the instant love i had for  some of the songs, Now  before i get  into too much detail about the  album i just  wanted to say there   are a few  extended editions of  this  album  which i  haven't heard  yet  also a  bonus track Australasian edition and a  3 disk 2 cd  1 dvd edition also.... here is the track listing

1 Dog Days Are Over              4:13

5 Kiss With A Fist                    2:04

11 Hurricane Drunk                  3:13

12 Blinding                               4:40

13 You've Got The Love          2:49

Dog Days Are Over : Kind of a sombre echo atmosphere in this one  with  guitar intro  and  a synth pop clapping sound mid paced tempo with a couple of  vocal breaks

Rabbit Heart (Raise it Up) : Synth pop at it's best good tempo florence  puts lots of effort into her lyric delivery high end especially

I'm Not Calling You A Liar : Drums are nearly as strong as the lyrics the beat is one dimensional  on a lighter note the harp is a welcome addition  to the song all in all this to me is probably  the   weakest song on the album  but its far from disgraceful

Howl : Tempo is nice   in this track  could use it for a chase scene in a movie the beat is boppy, the song is well sung and produced and just when  you  think the tempo is set its lifted a touch at the end

Kiss With A Fist : Lyrical start first  song of the album  where the guitar  can be heard throughout  its a short song  and it  ends nicely

Girl With One Eye : A nice soft intro with  guitar strumming with Florence blending lyrics  nicely, the drums are very present again . The last 35 seconds of the  song  a little faster tempo  the song end with  florence   stating rather threatingly with loads of  emphasis on " I'll cut your little heart out  cause you made me cry  "
a really enjoyable song

Drumming Song : Strong  drums once again  nicely  made cant really fault it  apart  from the absence of the rest of the band  vocals and drums  drown  rest of instruments out not that i think its a bad thing the song  is catchy and  i have nothing  but full praise

Between Two Lungs : Very slow beginning nice back ground layering of hymms the track has a booming bass drum  Florence has a very  wide vocal range once again the song is near faultless like so many on the album

Cosmic Love : A mystical almost enya orinoco flow to it at the beginning once again brilliant vocals sounds like the song writer was trying to get  complete attention of his/her lover but was failing to do so with the lyrics "I'm always in this twighlight in the shadow of your heart"

My Boy Builds Coffins : A really impressive track i'm not sure i have heard such a  darkened sided truth delivered on such an upbeat tempo haven't heard this pulled off since Black Widows come to the sabbat i do  hope  this song is  covered by a death metal band sometime  in the foreseeable future

Hurricane Drunk : Great song one  can not  help but start tapping your feet to it  and sing along also with  rather sombre lyrics but  you still come out of this feeling rather jovial

Blinding : Sensational song when i first heard it i started laughing there is this strange noise at the start as if  they captured a duck quacking with laryngitis jokes aside this song to me   is  the most powerful  not the most catchiest but it grows on you and reels you in  i fear this song will be  still be played by me well into my later years with still heavy rotations

You've Got The Love : Great sing along song a  good album closer for such a dark lyrical  album  i think this song a fitting end finishing  off on a light note

The album   comes into  existence  with a strumming guitar  and florence adds her vocals to the  instrumentals which blends in  beautifully  seems like  the  band  are at least harmonious during the recording process to me  there isn't a bad  song  on this list  and   only  after a couple of   listens  you are hooked  if i was asked what is the standout track on this i would have to think a while the last half minute of girl  with one eye  is  rather powerful  but i actually  think blinding is what stirs me funnily enough it  used to be rabbit  heart when i was  new to the album   but  blinding  is a creeper if  you  don't have this album  i  recommend it  to anyone who has eardrums   8.7 / 10
